Oyster shells are a wonderful addition to your flocks' diet and are particularly important for chickens that are confined full time in runs, since they are entirely dependent upon you for their nutrition. The oyster shells are a great source of calcium which is necessary for the hens to lay their eggs. It is not recommended feeding oyster shells to non laying chickens.
We have also found oyster shells are convenient to add to the run during the wet rainy season since it helps with the mud and knocks down smells. .
